In Sweden, a good example of integrated water management is water service plan. According to the water authorities’ action program for the period 2022–2027, the municipalities must develop VA plans that include stormwater management. There must be an up-to-date water service plan for each municipality. The Act will enter into force on 1 January 2023.

The water service plan should show:

How the municipality plans long-term to meet the need for public water services?

What measures must be taken for the general VA facility to function in the event of torrential rain?

The purpose of the water service plan is to present the municipality’s long-term planning to meet the need for municipal water and sewage, and to report on how the municipal facilities will be secured to cope with future rainfall.
